something I realized about Taako being an emissary for Istus:

what if… for the dieties in this plane, having one of the Seven Birds as your agent/emissary is like having an ultra rare limited-edition collectible? 

Istus technically has all three of the Bois, and she gets so smug about it when she talks them up at the Celestial Plane Candlenights Parties, while the other gods rolls their eyes and grumble in their secret jealousy

The Raven Queen has to act cool when she gets Barry and Lup on her payroll, because she is the Goddess of Death and she can’t smudge that image, but as soon as they leave her office she just smiles to herself and says “haha, got ‘em, take that Istus” 

This inevitably leads to competitions between Istus and the Raven Queen over Who Got The Cooler Twin, which the twins themselves only feed into because they welcome any fuel to the fire of their eternal and lovingly brutal sibling rivalry

Istus and the Raven Queen will start arguing like soccer moms at a bake sale, like “well MY twin turned herself into a Lich and hasn’t lost control once in like sixty years” and “MY twin can summon a super cool binicorn with a rainbow mane” while the twins just stand there smugly staring each other down from either side of the snickerdoodles, preening and occasionally turning to their goddess like “hey mom you forgot the time I single-handedly defeated three ogres by myself” 

The Raven Queen will just sweep in sometimes with her star Reapers beside her, glowing like the cat who got the cream because she got a married pair and she’s so pleased with herself she can hardly stand it

Pan’s admiration for Merle is more humble, but you can still catch him just sliding into a conversation amongst the Gods like “remember that time your Birds almost died and my Bird saved their lives? yeah cool me too” as he sips his wine, quietly confident in his belief that His Bird is The Best Bird
