He’s even blocked former contestants (and despite some of these reddit comments, it was later revealed to be largely because she spoke out against the transmisogyny as well.)
That’s not even brushing the surface of issues within the fanbase. There’s an EXTREME under-appreciation for black queens. When a black queen succeeds (especially over a White Fav) the fans are ruthless, accusing her of either being cruel, annoying, or void of personality. It’s usually one of the three, commonly a blend. The only time black queens are appreciated is when fans can place them in a box of being “non-threatening” comic relief or “filler queens” (queens who don’t receive much attention and get eliminated early) whose primary function is to stand in the background and occasionally be the butt of jokes.
Y’all know I love me some Drag Race. Drag is a beautiful art form with a long standing history in the LGBT community. But I’ve been disgusted when I see gays (typically cis boys) claiming Drag Race as the pinnacle entertainment for our culture. It’s silly dramatic reality tv with a decades worth of grey morality in terms of how Ru and other associated folks have acted. I completely understand everyone I know who doesn’t want to watch it. It’s unapologetically pushy and it has at times majorly pushed into the wrong direction.
